Restored vintage railroad cars and historic engines in Minnesota feature the beauty fall color tours and holiday trains from the safety of the powerful iron horses. North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth travels from the Duluth Depot.

The North Shore Scenic Railroad operates along the historic Lake front Line, which is a 26 mile section of track between Duluth and Two Harbors, which was a vital transportation system for over 100 years.
Passengers ride vintage cars behind the steam powered historic engines along the stunning Northern Minnesota route. The 2008 fall season runs weekends through October 19. The popular Polar Express, the popular holiday and Santa Claus excursion, will run during the Christmas Holiday season.
- Fall Colors and Steam Train is a six hour trip up the North Shore to Two Harbors, with two hour layover. The passenger train is pulled by a historic Soo Line 2719. Points of interest along the beautifully scenic route include Lester River, French River, Knife River and Owens. Fare: $37.
- The Pumpkin Patch Train. Ride the Pumpkin Patch Trains to a secret patch of pumpkins, deboard, and pick a fresh pumpkin for Halloween. The one and half hour trip features fun for children, including magic, juggling, coloring, face painting and pumpkin carving. The Pumpkin Patch Train runs the last weekend of the season, October 18-19. The train departs at 10:30 am, 12;30 pm and 3:00 pm. Fare: $12.
- The 2008 Polar Express tickets will go on sale November 1 This popular holiday excursion departs from Fitger's Brewery Complex and journeys along the lake walk to the lake superior Railroad Museum. . Inside the museum is an enchanting antique model railroad display, carolers and costumed actors reading the story of The Polar Express. Santa will visit and everyone gets an "Imaging" jingle bell. Upon return to Fitgers is guests enjoys a warming bonfire, hot cocoa and cookies. Call for advance reservations.
